Opa's bratwurst simmered in beer and onions and finished on the grill, Fredericksburg, Texas

Opa’s Beer Brats

Opa's Beer Brats

The tailgate classic, done the Opa's way. Opa's Premium Bratwursts simmer in a bath of beer, onions, and a little heat, then finish over the grill for color and char. The beer-and-onion mixture cooks down into a topping you'll want piled right back on top. It's a backyard crowd-pleaser any time the grill's lit.

Ingredients

  • 8 Opa's Premium Cooked Bratwursts
  • 4 cans (12 ounce each) beer
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Directions

  1. Heat the grill. Preheat an outdoor grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate.
  2. Simmer in beer. Combine the beer and onions in a large pot and bring to a boil. Submerge the bratwurst, add the red pepper flakes, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, reduce the heat to medium, and cook 10-12 minutes. Remove the bratwurst, reduce the heat to low, and keep the onions cooking.
  3. Grill and serve. Cook the bratwurst on the grill, turning once, 5-10 minutes. Serve with the beer-and-onion mixture as a topping or side.
